On my trip to Japan, we went to a TON of temples and shrines. I don't know how interesting anyone will find it, but I will post little snippets about the places we went.
First off is Asakusa. It's located in Tokyo and known to be more of a tourist type place. This was near the end of the trip, so I was all templed out, so I didn't actually look at the temple... There is a long line of stalls selling all kinds of traditional things such as fans, chopsticks, umbrellas, candy, hair ornaments, and much more.
I think if you are going to Tokyo, this might be a good place to pick up some definitively Japanese things as souvenirs. If you are not interested in temples or traditional Japanese things, then I would just skip it.
